Judging tools

Drift judging analytics and live telemetry

Judges can't watch every tire at once. Analytics and telemetry tools show what the eye misses, so close calls are decided on evidence.

Updated October 2026

Key takeaway

Telemetry shows angle, line, proximity and track limits precisely; judges still make the call. Use data to confirm, not replace, judging.

Why judges use data

A live run happens in seconds, often in tandem, from one or two camera angles. Judges can miss a tire touching the grass, misjudge a gap, or disagree on how much angle a car held. In a sim, every car's position, angle and speed is already being calculated, so tools can record it and show judges exactly what happened.

Real-world drifting is moving the same way: for 2026, Formula Drift scores most of the line and angle in PRO qualifying with telemetry, while its judges score style.

D.R.I.F.T. by DaZD

D.R.I.F.T. (Drift Run Inspector Forensic Tools) is an Assetto Corsa app by DaZD, published on VOSAN, built for analyzing competitive drift runs. Its tools include:

  • A versus view comparing two drivers with gauges for trajectory, speed and style, plus a run consistency indicator.
  • Drone and preset cameras for reviewing a run from any angle.
  • A proximity tool that measures the gap between cars.
  • Trajectory and tire traces, with a choice of car, tires or both.
  • Telemetry stats and graphs such as drift angle, speed and RPM.
  • Warnings for tire drops, wall hits and collisions.

EFVD's judges can review replays and use D.R.I.F.T. Pro analytics before finalizing a call, as its Judging Guide explains. DaZD also makes Start Lights, a start-light system that gives every run the same start signal.

Data supports the judges; it doesn't replace them

Telemetry is precise about what happened: the angle, the gap, the tire that dropped. Judging still decides how much it matters: whether a correction was small, whether contact changed the battle, and who caused it. Good practice:

  • Publish which tools your judges may use, so drivers know how decisions are made.
  • Use data to confirm or settle close calls, not to re-judge every run.
  • Keep live flow moving: review when it matters, then decide.
  • Apply the same standard to every driver, whether or not a tool flagged something.

Setting it up for your event

  1. Give judges a spectator slot on the competition server, so their tools see every car.
  2. Install and test the analytics app on each judge's PC before event day.
  3. Agree how a flagged moment is handled: who reviews it and how long the review can take.
  4. Rehearse a few runs with the tools, so judges are quick with them under pressure.

Frequently asked questions

What is D.R.I.F.T. in Assetto Corsa?
Drift Run Inspector Forensic Tools, an app by DaZD on VOSAN for analyzing drift runs, with versus views, proximity measurement, trajectory traces and tire-drop, wall and collision alerts.
Does telemetry decide drift battles?
Not on its own. It shows judges exactly what happened; the judges decide how much it matters and who wins.
Can telemetry detect tire drops?
Yes. Tools like D.R.I.F.T. warn about tire drops, wall hits and collisions, and can show tire traces for review.
Do judges need special access to use these tools?
Usually a slot on the competition server, often as a spectator, so the app can see every car's data.
